  • Harsher in Hindsight: When the movie was released the idea of a lone sniper gunning down people at random with no apparent reason was so unsettling that to have the film released on television the producers had to add additional scenes showing that the shooter had a motive for his rampage. Sadly, active shooter incidents have become a common occurrence in contemporary America. Almost 2,500 people lost their life in such incidents between 2000 and 2018.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The gradual bond and friendship between Sandman and the priest. Becomes a Tear Jerker when Sandman is shot and killed when the sniper starts firing, culminating in a shot of the priest weeping while holding his friend's corpse.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Heston's character repeatedly berates the SWAT team for wanting to resolve the situation with their "fancy M-16s." Given Heston's latter-day fame as spokesman for the NRA, this seems a little funny.
  • Questionable Casting: Merv Griffin sings the national anthem!
  • Tear Jerker: The shot of Sam at the end of the film, weeping as he looks at the now empty stadium, reflecting on the horror of what just happened.
