• Accidental Aesop: Don't put your friends in your fanfic, especially to vent about their behavior! There are a lot of reasons, the first being that using real people blatantly can hurt their feelings. (In fact, Meg Cabot talks about this at length in Book Ten of The Princess Diaries.) The second is that it's plain rude.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
  • Daisy when Aza confronts her about the self-insert fanfic while Daisy is driving her. At first she goes into Implausible Deniability that fictional millstone Ayala isn't Aza, but then goes on a Never My Fault rant about how Aza doesn't know a thing about her life, and that in contrast Aza's life is cushy. Except that, as Aza points out, her life ISN'T easy with anxiety and OCD, and she has to deal with her own head before anything else. Both parties are supposed to be at fault, but Daisy comes off worse because Aza is chauffeuring her and gets into a car accident because of the fight.
  • Aza. It's clear that she relies heavily on Daisy to be her cheerful, quirky, distracting best friend, while not putting much effort into the friendship on her end. Daisy points out that despite being best friends since childhood, Aza doesn't even know basic things like Daisy's parents' names or professions. Aza is understandably upset about Ayala- but it took her YEARS to get mad about it, because she never bothered to read Daisy's fic. She also decided to pick this fight with Daisy while driving, despite recognizing that she was starting to drive more erratically as she got more upset.
