• Awesome Art: Guido Guidi's retro-inspired G1 art was probably the most praised thing about the miniseries.
• Broken Base: The retcon of Optimus' real reasoning to launch the Ark being a trap intended to finish off Megatron for good, putting the rest of the Autobots on board on a suicide mission without their knowledge. Some thinking it went completely against this version of Optimus' personality and bit needlessly Darker and Edgier.
• Fridge Horror: Star Saber shows up as part of the shared Autobot leadership on Cybertron following Optimus Prime's departure and presumed death. As Star Saber never showed up in the original Marvel comic or the Furman-written Regeneration One, one's left to assume he perished sometime in the years between this mini and the start of the Marvel comic.
