YMMV / Tom T. Hall

Go To

  • Award Snub:
    • Received just seven CMA nominations in his whole career, and never won. He went 0 for 5 in 1973 alone.
    • He managed to win a single Grammy Award in six tries, but the win wasn't for his music, but rather Best Liner Notes for his first Greatest Hits Album in 1972.
  • Covered Up:
    • Hall originally recorded and released "Little Bitty" on his 1996 album Songs From Sopchoppy. Alan Jackson recorded it shortly after that.
    • Some listeners may be more familiar with the Gram Parsons version of "I Can't Dance" (which leaves out a good chunk of the lyrics).
    • Actually averted with his most famous song, "Harper Valley PTA", which he never formally recorded on his own (though his original demo eventually got released).
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The many morbid references to death in his songs, accompanied with their sometimes downbeat tone, might feel this way knowing that he would eventually commit suicide, and apparently suffered from depression for much of life.
  • Refrain from Assuming: The song is just called "I Love", not "I Love Little Baby Ducks" or "I Love You Too".
