YMMV / Thunderbirds S 1 E 22 Brink Of Disaster

Go To

  • Broken Base: This episode was one of the early production episodes that had to be retroactively extended to meet the 50 minute runtime, which in this instance was done by creating a Two Lines, No Waiting plot between the monotrain rescue and the brand new Penelope jewellery heist story. This has created an interesting divide between fans over which half of the episode is better. Fans of the monotrain stuff enjoy the fun rescue and action, and see the Penelope side as an unwanted and pointless distraction that kills the episode's pacing. You also have fans who consider the monotrain to just be a generic Thunderbirds setpiece that has been done better elsewhere, and consider Penelope's side to be the episode's real highlight as a fun Day in the Limelight story with refreshingly low stakes that makes it a nice change of pace for the show.
  • Padding: As the last of the "Extended Eleven", the B-plot about Grafton's goons trying to steal Penelope's jewellery collection has little to do with the monotrain rescue and is abruptly resolved off-screen.
