YMMV / Thomas And Friends S3 E9 "Henry's Forest"
aka: Thomas The Tank Engine S 3 E 9 Henrys Forest

  • Franchise Original Sin: This episode was one of the first to revolve around a character trait not originally from the original books by giving Henry an interest in nature, and infamously earned the scorn of the Rev. W. Awdry for it ("What interest does a steam locomotive have in scenery?"). However, many fans embraced this softer side of Henry as giving him extra character depth, and it did not directly contradict his personality from the books. Many later episodes revolving around traits not from the books tended to make it their default personality and act very differently from how their book self would. Even many who liked the idea of Henry enjoying nature felt later episodes depicting him as scared of things like chicken pox and literally scared of the rain instead of the rain spoiling his paint as per his first story was rather hard to swallow.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Faulty research aside, this is easily one of the most emotional episodes of the whole series: Henry's sanctuary is destroyed by a terrible storm and he's forced to assist with cleaning up the fallen trees afterwards, but thanks to Thomas and Toby seeing how miserable he is in the wake of the disaster, he's later brought in to restore it to its previous beauty.
  • Tear Jerker: Henry going to the forest after the storm, only to find much of it destroyed in the aftermath.
