* ValuesDissonance: Stuart [=McLean=] noted that in the years after it first went out, the turkey episode began attracting a bit of controversy as people became more aware of animal rights. People began writing in to take issue with the line that said that Dave's turkey looked as if it had been in a knife fight, believing that it implied some sort of abuse had taken place. [=McLean=] directed people to another line in the episode that explained that the turkey had been mishandled during processing. For repeats, [=McLean=] recorded a new introduction to explain the issue and state that he was against all forms of animal abuse.

* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: "Springhill" (later renamed "The Laundry Chute") has a flashback to when Dave was nine and he got stuck in his mom's laundry chute. He and his little sister Annie were the only ones home, and he became terrified and started crying. Annie sat down at the top of the laundry chute and reminded him of funny family stories ("Remember when Auntie Brenda sat on the birthday cake?"), told knock-knock jokes, and sang songs to keep him calm until their mother got home.

* NeverLiveItDown: If a turkey is involved in a story, someone will invariably look at Dave and bring up one of his various misadventures with poultry over the years.
