• Awesome Music:
  • The score by Isao Tomita, particularly when Seibei returns from his duel with Yogo Zen'emon.
  • The ending song, Kimerareta Rizumu ("The Rhythm Which is Decided"), written and performed by legendary Japanese folk-rock singer-songwriter, Yosui Inoue.
• Heartwarming Moments: Many, but each of them is all too brief. Especially the few seconds we're allowed to revel in Tomoe's and Seibei's reunion before we learn of his death.
• Moe: Tomoe. Seibei's daughters Kayano and Ito are non-sexual examples.
• Tear Jerker: Starting in the very first scene.
• The Woobie: Most of the characters in one way or another.
