YMMV / The Twilight of the Superheroes

Go To

  • Spiritual Adaptation: While this story obviously never saw fruition in itself, many a later Crisis Crossover can be said to borrow liberally from it.
    • 1988's Invasion! was based around the whole idea of the DCU's alien races (including "heroic" ones like the Thanagarians) forming an alliance to keep Earth's superhumans "under control". In fact, the plot-thread of the Thanagarians wanting Rann's Zeta-beam as a free gate to Earth, originally sown in Moore's Swamp Thing, was originally meant for this story; it got repurposed for Invasion! with barely a blip.
    • 1991's Armageddon 2001 did the whole "Bad Future prophecies for each and every hero" gimmick, down to the time gap being explicitly ten years (the key difference being that this Bad Future is mostly the fault of one Fallen Hero). Hilariously enough, the Batman-centric bits read pretty much like a Recursive Adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns.
    • The best-known, though, is probably 1996's Kingdom Come, which hews closest to the idea of superhero dynasties (including the famed Superman/Wonder Woman pairing), their Destructive Savior aspects, and Gray-and-Grey Morality all around.
