YMMV / The Tiger's Wife

• Jerkass Woobie: Luka. He's an abusive husband and overly enthusiastic about killing the tiger but he's also a closeted homosexual overshadowed by five older brothers (all of whom either died or were imprisoned) and an abusive father that even threatens to rape his fourteen year old deaf-mute daughter in law if Luka doesn't commit to the deed. All of the beautiful music he composed was plagiarized by his so called "friends" and he was unable to form a marriage pact with his only friend so that they would both be able to live their dreams thanks to not only Amana's scheming father but a certain nephew of Death. While his actions to the Tiger's Wife are cruel and unforgivable, he certainly wasn't born that way: it was the world being utterly cruel that did the deed.
• The Woobie:
  • The Tiger's Wife. Not only is she mute and abused because of her disability, but she is forcibly married to Luka, a situation neither of them is happy with. Luka beats her so badly that she nearly dies at least once, and when Luka is killed she is ostracized by the village even more than before. Regardless of how she got pregnant, the options are all pretty horrifying, and finally she is poisoned by Natalia's grandfather, the only friend she had.
  • Natalia's grandfather counts as well. As a child, he's orphaned before he could even remember his parents, all of his peers die of illness to leave him more or less the only young child in the village, and he was forced to poison the Tiger's Wife who was more or less his only friend close to his age...all within the first decade of his life.
