YMMV / The Simpsons S34 E5 "Not It"

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: Par for the course in a Treehouse of Horror story. Even assuming that Marge was angry enough at Comic Book Guy for lying to her that it fully negated all her emotional investment in their subsequent marriage and family life, their children, Bert and Lizzie, appear totally untroubled by the violent death of their father and their mother's immediate rebound with Homer.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Some of the Monster Clown Krusty fan art that appears during the closing credits is outright creepy and even scarier than Krusto himself. The credits itself are also blood red, which somehow makes it even scarier than the sickly green typically seen in Treehouse of Horror episodes.
    • The wall of missing kids in Kingfield serves as this once Fridge Horror sets in. The wall includes a number of major character but even a few background or one-off characters like Frank Grimes were killed by Krusto. What's worse is, judging by the conversation Homer overhears, the town is thoroughly desensitized to the childrens' disappearances even though dozens if not hundreds of children were eaten by Krusto. It's telling that aside from our leads from the Losers Club, the only adult characters confirmed to make it alive to the present day are Eddie, Lou, Kent, Lenny and Hans Moleman (and Hans would have been too old to be a victim in the first part).
      • Don't be too sure about that last part. Look closely at Krusto's audience and you'll see a victim that shows just how long he's been at this: a young Montgomery Burns.
    • Comic Book Guy's Catapult Nightmare, which ends with Marge's face and voice instantly morphing into that of Krusto. The dream initially plays out like a regular scene, with the switch happening at breakneck speed, resulting in quite the effective Jump Scare.
  • Older Than They Think: It’s not the first time The Simpsons did a parody of It, as it was the main focus of a story in the Treehouse Of Horror comic issue 23 (its last issue) as “It Happens”. Coincidentally, the next episode has a segment based on Death Note which was already done as “Murder He Wrote” in issue 14.
