YMMV / The Simpsons S31 E8 "Thanksgiving of Horror"

Go To

  • Even Better Sequel: Many critics agree this episode is better at being scary and gory than this season's Halloween episode.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Martin's death becomes this when you learn this was Russi Taylor's final performance prior to her death. However, knowing from Dan Vebber that she had the absolute time of her life recording it helps remove some of the sting.
    • During the opening sequence, Marge says "You know, the world has gotten so darn scary lately, what with the grim specter of... everything". To put it mildly, 2020 was an exceptionally turbulent year, as it started with tensions between Iran and U.S. almost igniting into armed conflict, which was followed by Australian wildfires, then, the COVID-19 Pandemic spread around the world and left most life in a standstill, and anti-police brutality protests erupted after the murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, all adding to an already-intense election, which was soon followed by Donald Trump supporters launching an insurrection against the US government after he was defeated in said election the following year.
  • Moe: Maggie as a newborn poult in the first segment.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Virtual Marge's situation in the second segment. Not helping is Homer sadistically torturing her at the beginning, before we even know if she's the real Marge trapped in a virtual world, or not.
  • Tear Jerker: How does Virtual Marge reach Maggie? By making her hear the first sound she heard: her mother's heartbeat. Cut to the real Marge being totally devastated.
