• Alternative Joke Interpretation: When Milhouse talked to Bart about "walking in on just one [parent]," was he referring to one parent masturbating, or walking in on one parent sleeping around with another partner? From what we've seen of Milhouse's parents post-divorce, both could apply equally.
• Character Rerailment: Homer lying about Greystash's death to Lisa is considered one of the best post-Seasonal Rot Simpsons scenes because it reminded viewers that Homer could be a caring, if misguided father and that Lisa, despite her intelligence, still had childish interests appropriate to her age.
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: Nelson and Bart must have worked things out after the events of this episode, because by the following season's "The Debarted" Bart will refer to Milhouse and Nelson respectively as "my best friend" and "my other best friend."
• Ho Yay: This episode is full of it, between Bart and Nelson.
• Unintentional Period Piece: The B-plot is a reference to the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and its associated It Was His Sled viral spoiler in 2005.
