YMMV / The Saga of White Will

Go To

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: It is an underground comic with some explicit white nationalist, pro-segregation and anti-Semitic messages. This trope is probably a large part of the reason it only had one issue.
  • Designated Hero: All of them. The political views of the main characters aside, they achieve their goals by assaulting and harassing those who oppose them. What's worse is that they are not at all portrayed as Good Is Not Soft / Good Is Not Nice antiheroes; everything they do, no matter how violent, is portrayed not as a necessary evil, but as the only viable response.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • As racist and self-righteous as the comic was when it first came out, its claims that the crimes of blacks get overlooked by cops for reasons of political correctness can feel even more inappropriate and unjustifiable in modern times, where accusations of police brutality against black suspects frequently makes national news.
    • Likewise, the bit about "politically incorrect" books being removed from libraries feels even more inappropriate coming from a Neo-Nazi writer when looked back on in the early 2020s, which saw a wave of book bannings in U.S. schools in which books depicting/covering themes like racism and LGBT issues or ones that were written by minorities were banned on questionable grounds often seen as flimsy excuses. A prominent example of this is when McGinn County, Tennessee removed Maus from its school curriculum on the grounds of it featuring profanity, violence and nudity (the "nudity" here was purely incidental and not even in focus, and the other two are both perfectly warranted for the story, which was the account of a Holocaust survivor).
