YMMV / The Outlaws

Go To

  • Fair for Its Day: While recalling writing the novel in one of his later autobiographical works, The Questionnaire, von Salomon was surprised that The Outlaws barely mentions the Jewish population of Germany and there's no trace of antisemitic rhetoric. Moreover, in a few fragments, the author slightly mocks the racist groups on the German right-wing. The French colonial soldiers who take part in the occupation of the western German territories are shown in a neutral light, although at the time their presence was perceived as insulting and threatening by many Germans. On the other hand, the author doesn't even attempt to hide his contempt for Poles and occasionally describes them as inherently inferior to the Germans.
