• Anvilicious: All of the books have An Aesop, the most common ones being "learning and literacy are good!"
• Awesome Music: The music for the movie is really wonderful and perfectly captures the mood.
• Crosses the Line Twice: Revolutionary War on Sunday has Jack freaking out over how George Washington has learned that he and Annie are stowaways just as he's about to cross the Delaware. What really pushes this into this trope is Annie deciding to exclaim "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" to the bewildered future first President of the United States.
• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: This book series is so popular in Japan that it now has its own anime film.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: "Blizzard on the Blue Moon" has Jack and Annie meeting with apprentices who want to steal Dianthus the unicorn for their master, but neither them nor the master are never brought up in future arcs at all. It would've been interesting to have Jack and Annie actually confront an evil character throughout an entire story arc, instead of a Villain of the Week structure.
