- Creator's Pet: Many readers have criticised this story for the fact that Warlock and Thanos, Jim Starlin's two favourite characters, pretty much save the day all by themselves, while more established Marvel heroes serve as mere Cannon Fodder, none of them even knowing what Warlock's and Thanos's ultimate plan for defeating Magus is.
- It Was His Sled: The main question of the story is what the Magus' end goal was. He wanted the Infinity Gauntlet and manipulated people to gather the gems together and manipulated Eternity into removing the restriction that prevented the gems from being used in unison.
