The film:

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The movie closes with a message lamenting that the war criminals that served as inspiration for the villains in the story are still at large while the international community is too busy searching for Osama bin Laden instead. This becomes really ironic when Radovan Karadzic (one of the named fugitives and likely the inspiration for the Fox) was arrested in the year following the movie's release whereas bin Laden would be caught and killed in a secret operation by the USA in 2011 - way after Karadzic's arrest.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The movie ends with a message saying that the official hunt for war criminals in Bosnia, from which the movie's antagonist the Fox is based on, continues to this day, and that the two most wanted men — Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić, continue to elude the U.S., the United Nations, the European Union, NATO, the Hague and others. However, it also points out that "in the years that Radovan Karadžić has been on the run, he has published two books and one play," ending with the snarky "Perhaps if the International Community opened a summerstock theatre... But they're probably too busy 'searching' for Osama bin Laden." Less than a year after the movie was released, Karadžić was arrested in Belgrade in July 2008, and in March 2016 was found guilty and sentenced to 40 years for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Mladić meanwhile was arrested in May 2011 and was sentenced to life imprisonment in November 2017. And that's not to mention that the search for bin Laden ended on May 2011 when he was shot and killed in a raid, meaning that the film got itself dated in less than four years, with all the people it laments are scot-free imprisoned or killed.
