- Paranoia Fuel: There is a general sense of uneasiness throughout the episode. Sue could be anyone, Rag Doll could be anywhere, and Mirror-Iris could siphon Barry's speed at any time as instructed by Eva (though in actuality, she's just trying to encourage him to exhaust what little he has left, rather than use a speed-stealing device as has been seen in the past). In the end, it also turns out that Captain Singh has been replaced by a mirror doppelgänger.
- Wangst: Joe's entering witness protection is literally played like he's dying, and is made even harder to take seriously as there definitely would have been an announcement if Jesse L. Martin was permanently leaving the show. He's only gone for a few episodes.
