* CommonKnowledge: To this day, many people claim that the PC version on the Microsoft Store is an uptaded version that fixes all the problems from the Steam version but this isn't the case. While it does have some changes and additions (most notably a first person mode, FOV adjustment and an Infinite ammo mode) it still has the same performance issues.

** Fans have discovered [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyqKktmpFzI an incredibly beneficial glitch]] where shooting an ordinary crossbow bolt into the ceiling-mounted spigots during Laura's boss fight causes them to continuously spew flames without shutting off. Do this in an area where Laura cannot teleport in behind you, and she'll keep walking into the blaze over and over until she dies.

** Reborn Laura (not [[spoiler:the real Laura who had died because of the barn fire]]) is an absolutely nightmarish monster. Her design alone is horrifying, being a deformed and burnt monstrosity and a frightening combination of the [[TsuchigumoAndJorogumo Jorōgumo]] and [[StringyHairedGhostGirl Onryō]]. Her EstablishingCharacterMoment is violently emerging from a corpse and its blood pool accompanied with a horrifying scream shrugging off the bullets the player is likely to fire at her in the moment, and then showing off her OneHitKill move on a Haunted. She is as memorable as she is terrifying, easily sliding herself into the top lists of awesome and horrifying survival horror monsters.

** The trap disarming minigame can become increasingly frustrating as the game goes on, as it requires increasing levels of precision to not blow the trap up and instantly die. This is only compounded if you play on PS3 (and possibly Xbox 360) as there is a bit of input lag that requires you to press the button a moment earlier than you think you should. And once again, if you get the timing wrong you are dead. The only other alternative is to shoot traps that are unavoidable, but with that you both spend precious ammo and lose out on materials for your crossbow from the trap itself, a double whammy of not good.

* MagnificentBastard: [[SuperPersistentPredator The Keeper]] is the safe-headed mental construct guarding Ruvik's secrets and a terrifying ImplacableMan that sets its sights on killing Sebastian Castellanos when he comes too close to answers. Building numerous traps and tricking Sebastian into walking into them to try and kill him, the Keeper stalks Sebastian until it reaches him trying to save the young Leslie. Taking on Sebastian, the Keeper proves its intellect in a heated battle. Setting off a gas leak to trap Sebastian and using the safes around the area to regenerate itself, the Keeper proves cunning and audacious enough to kill itself just to respawn right behind Sebastian. When Sebastian reaches the final wheel to end the gas leak and escape, the Keeper smashes it to bits to prevent his escape. When Sebastian finally overcomes it, the Keeper only dies after Sebastian crushes it in its own trap; even as it's being crushed, the Keeper stands firm and [[VillainousValor tries to push the trap back up through sheer force of will]].

** The Haunted on the whole. When ''Film/{{Hellraiser}}'' was cited as an influence, the creators weren't kidding. All of the Haunted are menacing and have BodyHorror running through their designs. To a degree, even [[spoiler: STEM itself]] counts as it's a twisted setting created via [[spoiler: the mind of a sadistic SerialKiller]].
** Ruvik, a scarred SerialKiller and MadScientist who orchestrates the horrific events the cast go through. Much of the game centers on his twisted psychology, which is as fascinating as it is disturbing.

** Ruvik, the game's main antagonist. Ruvik wields a set of badass RealityWarper powers that allow him to decimate enemies as long as he's not JustToyingWithThem. Combine that with a sadistic MadScientist personality and a chilling performance by Creator/JackieEarleHaley and he stands out as a highlight of the game.
** The Keeper, a menacing boss who pursues enemies with horrific abandon and even shows points of huge cleverness such as killing itself to exploit its own method of respawning. It's unsurprising that it got PromotedToPlayable in a DLC, and that playing as it in said DLC is pure CatharsisFactor compared to Sebastian's own vulnerability.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The widescreen and difficulty were points of contention among many people, with the widescreen generally seen as distracting rather than cinematic, and the difficulty considered too punishing and unfair. The game was patched around June 2015, to allow you to remove the Letterboxing, allowing you to play in fullscreen, and altering Casual Difficulty to be more merciful; Haunted are much less likely to revive once dropped, the odds of scoring critical headshots are higher, bomb disarming never increases in speed, and bosses are just as lethal as always, but take a lot less firepower to kill.

** The final upgrade to the vanilla harpoon for the Agony Crossbow is incendiary. Since fire is a one-hit kill to most common enemies in the game, it can make later levels an absolute cakewalk: the bolts are as cheap to make as ever and work wonders on some of the nastier enemies like the above-mentioned Alter Egos and Doppelgangers.

* InterfaceScrew: Punching can become a viable method of combat late in the game, especially with the brass knuckles. However, the button for punching is the same for stomping and kicking on fallen enemies. For some reason, Sebastian sometimes prioritizes kicking a dead enemy on the ground over punching an enemy running toward you.
