These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
YMMV: The Ed Sullivan Show aka: Ed Sullivan Show
Hilarious in Hindsight: The episode dated February 9, 1964 (the same one in which The Beatles first appeared) also featured Frank Gorshin impersonating celebrities "running for office themselves." Of course, nobody would think that Ronald Reagan would be elected governor of California, let alone President of the United States.
Newer Than They Think: Ed Sullivan didn't get Elvis first, he was third. Sullivan hated playing catch-up and so resolved to get the next big rock act first, and then came The Beatles...
Seinfeld Is Unfunny: In this day of hundreds of specialty channels, the Ed Sullivan Show's variety act format seems rather hodge-podge, and showcased a lot of acts that wouldn't be considered popular or entertaining. But back then when there were few national networks, Sullivan provided a market for hundreds of new or obscure performers who'd otherwise never see any exposure. Thankfully, Sullivan took that responsibility seriously.
