YMMV / The Council of Hanwell

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Isabel Miller and Walter Young were the only two members who opposed the Doctor. Miller is betrayed and jailed by the Doctor when she questioned him. She's found dead in her jail cell. Walter didn't trust the Doctor and managed to kill 9 of his anomalies, but is found dead in the power plant surrounded by their corpses that he's stacked up in a nice little pile.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: In regards to some of the citizens. Was Isabel, the warden, as evil as other members of the council or was she the White Sheep. Was the power plant engineer, Walter Young, the White Sheep as well? Did the named non-council characters really know what was going on? With the television station openly broadcasting anomaly warnings, how much were the ordinary citizens involved in this? Was Taylor Walsh aware that the regenerative brain treatment could be used to create anomalies? Both Brett and Taylor made sure the school and the hospital were both evacuated, but the former member trafficked small children and the latter helped with the doctor's experiments. The only mentioned use of the anomaly research was the aforementioned groundbreaking brain treatment. What kind of other results did the members expect and would they be worth the immoral experiments? Was Sam's sacrificial rituals performed to stop anomalies, appease them, or cause them to appear and was the mayor right about his beliefs being superstitious nonsense? Did the mayor realize that Sam killed people in his rituals or that Brett trafficked kids? We do hear a recording of the mayor ordering one of her subordinates to look into Brett after parents complained about him doing unspeakable things to his students. Why did Daniel betray the council to the Doctor? We will never know these answers.
  • Awesome Music: The music is pretty good in this game. Of note is the song "Behind Bars".
  • Complete Monster: The Doctor is the one behind the anomalies, subverting the rest of the council's benevolent intentions solely to make himself powerful and build an army. Having convicts sent to him, the Doctor conducts ghastly, agonizing experiments to turn them into monsters, torturing them if they are too willful. Growing impatient with waiting, he eventually began to simply abduct innocents from the street. Once this was done, the Doctor proceeded to unleash them on the town, killing whoever stood in his path to reign supreme.
