• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: There is a Jump Scare through one of the doors in the basement, which is preceded by a mysterious voice pleading for help from the darkness. It has no bearing on the plot and is never explained.
• Black-and-Gray Morality: While several of the characters do genuinely heroic and selfless deeds, deliberately getting a teenage boy infected and locking them up as a way to imprison a monster is questionable to say the least. What is more, the Protagonist is the only member of the main cast who considers going back on the decision.
• Complete Monster: The Blood is originally a human who drinks the blood of animals because of a condition that means he will die otherwise. However, he also torments his mother with Hannibal Lectures purely out of spite. After he is cured of his condition, he makes it abundantly clear that he simply enjoys killing and drinking the blood of others. His victims include three teenage boys, two of whom were his nephews. Then, after he is defeated, he gets revenge by infecting the Protagonist’s unborn baby and waiting six months until the baby is born, before murdering the baby in the most graphic way possible right in front of her. For added cruelty, that baby is the only thing she had to remind her of her husband, who died trying to stop him.
