* TearJerker: Marcie, the woman from the dunking tank and the harbinger of something very wrong happening in Claridge, is one of the first to develop lesions; she staggers around the fairground crying out for her husband to help her, but nobody comes. Later in the film it's revealed she's one of the victims who died that evening.
** Dr. Abrams uses his last hours to record the victims around the hospital, which includes not only Jennifer (who had been left behind by her parents hours before and forced to come to the hospital on her own) and a mother holding her young son in her arms.

* AdultFear: There is a mysterious and quickly spreading epidemic going around town. The hospital and other medical facilities are overrun and the medical personnel have never seen anything like this. Your neighbors are dying in horrific pain and are being mutilated by unseen forces. That alone is terrifying, but the horror gets worse as parents are watching their children get sick and being unable to do anything about it.
