- Hilarious in Hindsight: Ann Dowd, who plays Elizabeth Thomas (Kristy's mother), also appears in The Handmaid's Tale as Aunt Lydia. In the 2020 Netflix adaptation, Elizabeth (now played by Alicia Silverstone) makes a joke about changing her name to "Ofwatson" in response to Kristy's disdain about their engagement.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- A young Zach Braff (best known for playing J.D. on Scrubs) plays Dawn's love interest in the episode "Dawn Saves the Trees."
- Music-wise, the singer of the opening theme, Emily Bindiger, would later go on to collaborate with Yuki Kajiura and provide vocals for a few of her soundtracks, such as PandoraHearts and El Cazador de la Bruja.
- Ann Dowd portrays Elizabeth Thomas in the Christmas special. She would later receive a lot of attention for her role as Aunt Lydia on The Handmaid's Tale.
- A younger Danny Tamberelli, later one of the two stars of The Adventures of Pete & Pete as Little Pete, played Jackie Rodowsky.
