YMMV / The Autobiography of James T. Kirk

Go To

  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Kirk learns the cannon “Arena” trick from an experiment his brother did when he was five, gets his love of Yosemite from his father taking him there on holiday, and learns rock climbing from his mom.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • The foreword and epilogue from Bones and Spock, loving their friend after his (assumed) death on the Enterprise-B's shakedown and calling him a true Father to His Men.
    • Jim is an Annoying Younger Sibling to his older brother, irritating him with his Big Brother Worship, until he cries about his mom being gone, and they get closer from there.
    • On the Republic, where Ensign Kirk has to report Finney for a potentially catastrophic act of negligence, and everyone else ends up hating him, Scotty looks after him. Garrovick then takes Kirk with him to the Farragut and later promotes him, but that doesn’t end as well.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Antonia in the Star Trek: Generations movie is Blurry Woman Syndrome, retconned in with an unexplained retirement from Mr “I would rather die than retire” Kirk, after they weren’t allowed to use Carol Marcus. Antonia in the book is affectionately snarky, sees through the swaggering persona and knows full well he’s only with her because he’s trying to ignore his problems.
