YMMV / The Anglo/American – Nazi War

• Complete Monster: Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS and The Gestapo, succeeds Adolf Hitler as Germany's leader following the latter suffering a debilitating stroke. Overseeing The Holocaust, Himmler also executes political dissidents and kills tens of millions as he conquers much of Europe, going on to oppress the conquered Soviet Union with demands for slave labor and natural resources. Enacting a strict scorched earth policy to avoid the Allies being able to use resources of cities, Himmler causes millions to die and cares nothing for the countless European cultural and artistic works destroyed by his barbaric order. Using chemical warfare, Himmler devastates the UK and Italy, even as the latter surrenders. Facing revolt from both France and the Soviet Union, Himmler immediately responds by attacking both with nerve gas, killing hundreds of thousands and plunging the latter into a civil war. When the Allies move to conquer Germany, Himmler, unwilling to relinquish power, orders the bombing of any town planning to surrender.
• Iron Woobie: All of Poland. To say its people suffer would be a MASSIVE understatement. In spite of this, they fight like lions, a Polish general oversees the taking of Berlin, and though it takes 35 years, the nation ultimately recovers and prospers after the war ends.
• Moral Event Horizon:
  • The Nazis cross it in the eyes of the Allied nations when they bombard Britain, Italy and several other countries with chemical weapons, killing the Queen Mother, her children, and 50,000 other civilians. And then, just to rub it in that these Nazis are nastier than the ones in our timeline, they start destroying cultural and artistic monuments throughout Europe in an orgy of violence, topping it off with the complete annihilation of Paris by a group of Einsatzgruppen soldiers.
  • The A4 leveling Stettin and killing 275,000 people, most of them innocent, for the crime of resisting A4 occupation is pretty brutal.
  • During the war, some Allied commanders wonder if they've crossed it when, in retaliation for the aforementioned chemical attacks in Britain and Italy, they bombard much of central Germany with anthrax, rendering some regions completely uninhabitable and causing a nationwide famine.
• Tear Jerker: The WHOLE STORY.
  • The death of Queen Elizabeth II, and all of the Royal Families that were killed by the Third Reich missiles that struck England.
  • The destruction of various European cultural and artistic works at the hand of the SS ordered by Himmler is a mixture of heartbreaking and Nightmare Fuel. Furthermore, Paris and Orleans were completely razed by the SS and live coverage across the world. The obliteration of Notre Dame and the rest of Ile de la Cite’s structures, the Arc de Triomphe and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Louve, Venus de Milo, and the Eiffel Tower effectively erased from the map of France.
  • The Holocaust is even more thorough, with the only survivors being in the low thousands. This results in there not being enough Jews to build a Jewish state.
  • The destruction of the war gets so bad, that several Allied generals throw in the towel rather than continue the war.
