YMMV / The Adventures of Batman & Robin E11 "Baby-Doll"

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Mary Dahl's co-stars called her a primadonna who eventually got their show cancelled thanks to her ego. Bear in mind though, she stuck with the show for ten years because she couldn't get other acting work. The episode in question that made her quit involved her, a twenty-year-old woman pretending to be a child, getting her head smashed in a cake by an actual child. It's possible she didn't quit due to being upstaged, but from an existential crisis realizing that fact.
  • Cry for the Devil: Baby Doll is a great example, a woman who has a genetic condition where she would never grow physically beyond a child, and goes to desperate lengths to try and bring some of the time she was happy back.
Baby Doll: [looking at a reflection of herself fully-grown] Look! That's me in there. The real me! There I am! ...But it's not really real, is it? Just made up and pretend, like my family, and my life, and everything else. Why couldn't you just let me make-believe! [shoots at Batman's reflections before facing her adult-form mirror... and firing until her clip is emptied, her eyes watering up as Batman takes her weapon and lets her hug his legs] I didn't mean to...
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Mary Dahl is quite memorable for being an incredibly sympathetic villain driven not by malice, but by the failure of her acting career, and her inability to physically and mentally progress. She’s one of the most popular Batman villains to never make the jump to the mainline comics.
  • Fanfic Fuel: It might be interesting to learn more about Batman and Robin's encounter with Poison Ivy where she employed those "vines with the really sharp thorns." Lord knows the show could've stood to use her more than they did.
  • Heartwarming Moments: At the end when Batman has her cornered and talks her down she breaks down into tears and hugs him. He doesn't try to push her away and instead puts a comforting hand on her shoulder.
  • Signature Scene: Baby Doll having her meltdown in the house of mirrors, crying over a funhouse image of the adult that she truly is but can never been seen as.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: More for the comics because aside from background cameos Baby Doll has never appeared in any of their plots.
