YMMV / T'ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger

Go To

  • Awesome Music: One of the game's selling points is its intense-yet-ethereal martial arts soundtrack. Some of the highlights are listed below:
    • The title theme, which serves double-duty as the credits soundtrack, combines the intensity of martial arts with the primality of the jungle.
    • The Tiger Ruins, the theme playing in the level of the first boss, does a superb job of letting the listener know they're up against an entirely new class of adversary.
    • The Leopard Fortress/Lookout theme is elegant with a primal undertone, and thus reflects the Leopard Clan perfectly.
    • And then, of course, there's the final boss theme. Bombastic, yet apocalyptic, it reflects the monstrous majesty of the Dragon Master perfectly.
  • Complete Monster: The Dragon Master, the cruel tyrant of China, is the one behind all the game's woes and the one who exterminated the noble White Tiger Clan in the past when they posed a threat to his evil, of which T'ai Fu was the only survivor. Among his countless victims is T'ai Fu's father, whose spirit has lingered in unrest since the day of the massacre. The Dragon Master even attacks and slaughters innocent panda monks when he relocates T'ai Fu years later at a temple, attempting to complete his genocide then and there.
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • At the end of the game, after you defeat the Dragon Master, Lau Fu tells T'ai to seek out other tigers that could've possibly survived Dragon Master extermination and led them into prosperous times. This could lend into pretty interesting concept for a story where T'ai becomes new leader for his clan.
    • What adventures did the clan leaders have in the past? Did some of them have a similar hero journey to T'ai?
    • How the other characters in the story (Panda Monks, Leopard Master, Princess Lotus, Monkey Master and Crane Master) will react to T'ai defeating the Dragon Master?
  • Fridge Horror:
    • The manual states that Dragon Master was the last dragon - the other Dragons wiped themselves out through infighting after their pride and ambition got the best of them. If Dragon Master was able to purge ancient China into the Dark Ages, imagine what a whole clan of dragons was capable to do. Yeah, maybe we shouldn't despair over the fact that in the world of this game, dragons have become an extinct species.
      • The manual also states that Dragon Master is transforming warriors of the Snake Clan into new race of dragons, which explains those snake-dragon hybrids and fire-blasting cobras in the final level. How Ax-Crazy Snake Clan members are to possibly make their species de-facto extinct by willingly getting themselves transformed into dragons? Also, given that all enemies we encounter in the game all warriors, does this mean that Dragon Master wants to transform non-warrior members of the Snake Clan, who are probably against his rule, and are disgusted by actions of their clan?
    • The only inhabitants of Ancient China seen in the game (aside of Panda Monks) are the other Clans, with no other animals seen. Looks like the Tiger Clan weren't the only ones that Dragon Master killed...
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • A martial arts saga starring cartoon animals produced by Jeffrey Katzenberg... way before Kung Fu Panda was created.
    • Bruiser Pythons look similar to Skalidor.
