YMMV / Survivors (BBC)

Go To

Both Series

  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The protagonists are generally sympathetic enough, but the atmosphere is so bleak that it almost doesn't matter.

1975 Series:

  • Harsher in Hindsight: The idea of a deadly virus coming from China essentially predicted the 2020 Corona Virus outbreak.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Tom Price crosses this, and then conveniently pays.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Lots of people quickly come and go, but Patrick Troughton stands out in his one-scene turn as a doomed river-barge operator named John Millen in "Parasites".
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Robert Fyfe played Phillipson in "Gone Away".
    • Emily Bolton (credited as June Bolton) played Tessa in "Corn Dolly".
    • Nickolas Grace played Matthew in "Gone to the Angels".
    • Denis Lawson played Norman in "The Future Hour".
    • Barbara from "Over the Hills" is played by Linda Robson, who would later be best known for playing Tracey Stubbs in Birds of a Feather.
    • Wally from the "Lights of London" two-parter is played by Roger Lloyd-Pack, who would later be best known for playing Trigger in Only Fools and Horses and Owen Newitt in The Vicar of Dibley.
  • The Scrappy: John and Lizzie.
  • Seasonal Rot: Arguably; the three seasons are certainly very different from each other. Each has its fans.

2008 Series:

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Sarah.
  • Fridge Logic:
    • Why are characters limiting themselves to pistols and shotguns? There's entire military arsenals out there.
    • If Britain's gone off air, have the letters of last resort on the UK's nuclear missile submarines been opened? If so, what's happened?
      • Since the plague played out over time the nuclear subs would have been able to monitor the progress of the plague through public broadcasts and dispatches from their command authority. Doubtless the same would have happened with the SSBN fleets of the United States, Russia and any other navy operating such submarines.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Sarah spends a majority of the first season being useless at best and outright villainous at worst. But during the second season, she begins to put more effort into acting like a better member of the group.
  • The Scrappy: 11-year-old kid Naj.
