* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Fans of the F91 Gundam were not happy that beam saber animation was changed from the spinning animation the Mass Produced version had in V to a more basic one. It does not help that T followed suit with this animation too. Mazinger Z suffers from a similar issue where its new Breast Fire animation makes it look a bit OffModel compared to the animation in V.

** When it came to the main protagonist units, the Xelguard and its mechanics are considered an improvement compared to the Vangray and later the Tyranado and both their upgraded forms. This is because X focused on having one protagonist unit to have multiple attacks with really good animations compared to making multiple protagonist units with only a few attacks each.

Misuse. These "wasted" tropes are used when an idea or character already present in the work isn't used to its full potential. You can't used for entirely new ideas that were never present in the work in first place.

Instead, the only Crossbone Vanguard enemy fought is Iron Mask while Tobia is left with almost no relevance to the plot outside of meeting the F91 version of Kincaid and Berah.

After thinking about it, I actually think this can work if it's reframed a bit.

Added DiffLines:

* CommonKnowledge: While the game's setting is tailor-made for Mashin Hero Wataru, and it can be argued that a number of other series got the short end of the stick, the extent to which Wataru is a SpotlightStealingCrossover is often exaggerated by the game's detractors:
** Even within the Wataru-centric setting, Anime/CrossAnge fits with very little compromise required and is very well-represented plotwise. Code Geass is pretty much the only series that gets a PostScriptSeason plot that wasn't already in numerous Super Robot Wars games by the time X released. While G-Reco and Buddy Complex suffer from having to work around Al-Warth, the most infamous plot change between them () can be blamed on Cross Ange, not Wataru.
** Doakdar was on the lower chain of SortingAlgorithmOfEvil, located below the Anti-Spiral, Black Noir and Ende the Devourer, all of them using his advance for their own gain, and once Wataru got rid of him, his plotline was basically done and none of the rest of the series BigBad suddenly put their crosshairs on him. It is essentially the opposite of Anime/SpaceBattleshipYamato2199[='=]s treatment in VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsV, which heavily took the spotlight for the beginning and end of the game but fell into the background during the middle of the game.
** While Wataru did start the softening of Ange, it was only at the beginning; Lelouch and Nadia handled the rest.
Is there an issue? Send a MessageReason:
Just because the Wataru plot ends five stages early doesn't change that the entire setting of the game was rather blatantly created specifically for it, with almost every other series requiring varying levels on contrivance (arguably moreso than the average Super Robot Wars game) to fit. It still fits the bill for a Spotlight Stealing Crossover.

* CommonKnowledge: Contrary to what many would say about the game, Wataru was not the SpotlightStealingSquad of the series. Those who actually played the game would eventually notice that:
** Doakdar was on the lower chain of SortingAlgorithmOfEvil, located below the Anti-Spiral, Black Noir and Ende the Devourer, all of them using his advance for their own gain, and once Wataru got rid of him, his plotline was basically done and none of the rest of the series BigBad suddenly put their crosshairs on him. Thus, Wataru's story had more or less similar weight like the rest of the stories.
** While he did start the softening of Ange, it was only at the beginning; Lelouch and Nadia handled the rest.
** The twist was that if this was a normal Isekai genre story, Wataru would've been TheHero (and seeing that X is a homage to the Isekai genre that was getting popular during its year of release, people would've looked at the more likely Isekai hero character first), but the story designed all along that the one who'd usually be stuck in the supporting guardian/mentor role in a normal Isekai genre story (the main characters Iori/Amari) is the main character of the story.

Only applies to the work causing the tough act to follow. Not those effected by it.

* ToughActToFollow: V was lauded for its work in the narrative department, but the story-telling quality in X is divided, whether one believes the LighterAndSofter elements in this game made it inferior to V or not.
** Likewise, but to a smaller extent, the reception to the Hi-Nu Gundam's animations was very mixed - not out of poor quality or execution, but because it had to follow up on the highly praised "Arios-san"'s Nu Gundam animations from the Z series and V with a different artist and animation style, not helped by the fact that both units are present for a back-to-back comparison.
