YMMV / Super Fly

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack. "Superfly", "Pusherman" and "Freddie's Dead" in particular.
  • I Am Not Shazam: "Superfly" is the name of the most famous song of the soundtrack. The character is never called this; his name's Priest.
  • Magnificent Bastard: (2018 Film): Youngblood Priest is a respected drug kingpin looking for a way out of the game to lead a sensible life. Starting off talking down a gangster and his bodyguards without a single threat of violence, Priest's desire to leave the life of a drug criminal leads an out-of-control spiral of cons and betrayal. However, Priest, using his penchant for smooth-talking and analysis, manages to conduct a Batman Gambit that sees him eliminate Gonzales of the cartel, seamlessly plant his right-hand Eddie into the Snow Patrol, get the corrupt Detective Mason arrested after she did his dirty work in gunning down the Snow Patrol, and comfortably leave the country with his lover on a cruise, all without scuffing his fabulous perm.
  • Tear Jerker: "Think," an instrumental that plays during Scatter's death scene.
  • The Woobie:
    • Poor Scatter. He actually was retired from the drug business and was running a successful club, but agreed to do One Last Job to help Priest retire, too. The pain on his face as Priest appeals to him is clear for all to see. And then he has to die for his troubles.
    • Freddie has it pretty bad, too; he's an all-around loser and addict, gets brutally beaten by the cops, and dies a senseless death soon after ratting Priest out. The soundtrack has an entire song about how much of a Woobie he is.
