• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: In Japan, Super Back to the Future Part II is often regarded as a forgettable title, receiving middling reviews from Famitsu (19/40). Outside of Japan, however, many consider it not only a good game in its own right, but also one of the greatest Back to the Future games ever.
• Vindicated by History: When Super Back to the Future Part II first released, it received rather unfavorable reviews from various critics at the time (and not just Japanese critics, one French critic gave it a 40/100). who generally cited it as a rip-off of Sonic the Hedgehog as well as the massive slow down and repetition of the gameplay, considered no better than the more infamous games in the franchise. It wasn't until over a decade had passed (particularly after The Angry Video Game Nerd covered the game) that its quality was re-evaluated as a fun, if mundane platformer with excellent presentation.
