YMMV / Strange Dawn

Go To

  • Angst Dissonance: Yuko spends most of the story whining and complaining about wanting to go back to her world. Granted, most people in her situation would be also unhappy about it (being stuck in another world); however, her obnoxious, selfish and callous attitude towards the other characters make it hard to sympathize with her.
  • Designated Hero: Yuko. Sure, she saves the chibi protagonists once or twice and has one Pet the Dog moment, but throughout the rest of the plot, she spends a majority of the time being a selfish, rude and apathetic Jerkass caring more about getting back to her world and finding a fresh pair of underwear than the lives of the chibi characters, as well as being an Ungrateful Bitch towards them, even when they're trying to help her with things such as finding food for her and Eri, and very rarely does anything remotely heroic, making it very hard to root for her.
  • Les Yay: Yuko and Eri. Though it's rather downplayed.
  • The Load: Eri and Yuko don't really provide much use to the story, except for scaring off enemies a few times and saving the other characters at least once or twice.
  • The Scrappy: Yuko for being an unlikable Jerkass and Designated Hero.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The anime as a whole is regarded as this by most reviewers.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Yuko. She was clearly intended to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, and given the situation that she and Eri are in, we're clearly meant to sympathize with her. However, she spends so much of the story being obnoxious, rude and selfish with her nicer moments being too few, too little that it's difficult to see her as anything but an insufferable and selfish asshole.
  • The Woobie: Eri, especially because she's far more sympathetic than Yuko.
