Added DiffLines:

* IKnewIt: Due to the Crystal Gems [[FantasticLegalWeirdness not being documented citizens]], them not understanding many human traditions, and Greg being open-minded about many things, many fans speculated that [[HeroicBastard Steven was conceived out of wedlock]]. This episode confirms that Greg and Rose never married each other.

Acceptable Targets (and its derivatives) is now an index.

* AcceptableTargets: Uncle Andy displays traits of being a stereotypical racist American. This includes calling the Gems "illegal aliens" (which Peridot technically ''and'' literally is. The others not so much depending on whether the ''Steven Universe'' U.S.A. has the same constitution), telling them to get out of his country, and scolds Greg for "not marrying an American" (Rose). Especially considering that the episode came out a week after the 2016 presidential election, where UsefulNotes/DonaldTrump, a controversial candidate ended up winning, though Andy's archetype was already well known before 2015-2016.

** Many progressive fans of ''Steven Universe'' felt that the episode was timed perfectly in its release; Andy's grumpy attitude at things changing is how many progressives characterized Trump's voters, even though [[AnimationLeadTime the episode was written way before Trump won]].

* JerkassWoobie: Andy... Well, Andy is a contentious character. But imagine if you came home after a long trip abroad and found a group of people were living in your house, taking apart your stuff, made modifications to the property, and that the one responsible for all of it is your cousin, who decided to distance himself from his family to the point of not telling his son anything about his own flesh and blood. You'd probably be just as annoyed as Andy was.
** Given how attached Andy is to his family, Greg changing his name and ''never'' mentioning their original name to his son was probably a big slap in the face as well.

Some Anvils Need To Be Dropped got cut, going to see if this fits better under An Aesop.

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped:
** Family, and life in general, always changes. It sucks, but you need to acknowledge that you can't stay in the past forever and that your family will move on, and that you should too.
** Your extended family may be weird, but that doesn't mean you can't love them.
** It can be uncomfortable hanging around bigots and reactionaries, especially if they're your relatives, but they're still people, and they ''are'' capable of becoming more open-minded when given the time and encouragement to do so. Sometimes.

** "WHAT HAPPENED TO MY FRICKIN' BARN?!" [[labelnote:explanation]]Based off of Carl Brutananadilewski's famous "What happened to my frickin' car" quote from the first episode of ''WesternAnimation/AquaTeenHungerForce''; the joke is that both Andy and Carl are voiced by Dave Willis (most certainly helps that Andy has the ''exact same voice'' that Willis used for Carl).[[/labelnote]]

* BrokenBase: Some fans say the episode was perfectly timed given all the issues around immigration and such in late 2016, while others argue that it was was the exact wrong time to try to create sympathy for a character like Andy, and may even give false hope to any kids who want to change the minds of their bigoted relatives. There's also the issue of whether this story deserved its double length, after the huge WhamEpisode the previous one was. Some feel it did due to introducing a new member of Steven's family and having ''all'' the heroic Gems in one place interacting with one another for an extended period of time, while others feel the double length episodes should be for 'bigger' episodes.

* FauxSymbolism: While one of the (many) grooms that fall off the wedding cake obviously symbolize Andy being left out of the family, note that it was one of the (again many) grooms that was in a ''straight'' couple, reflecting Andy's anger at the lack of tradition.

** In "Marble Madness", Dr. Maheswaran makes a side comment about believing that "Universe" isn't Steven's real last name. Cut to "Gem Harvest", where it's revealed that Greg's last name was "[=DeMayo=]" before he changed it to "Universe".

* CounterpartComparison:
** Andy at the basic level shares many aspects with Wirt from ''WesternAnimation/OverTheGardenWall'' in that he is a GrumpyBear of an older brother with a NeverMyFault attitude, only to suffer a JerkassRealization and make amends for his actions. HilariousInHindsight since there's a theory that this Greg is the same Greg (Wirt's brother) from ''Over the Garden Wall''.
** Andy has inevitably drawn comparisons to Carl Brutananadilewski from ''WesternAnimation/AquaTeenHungerForce'' due to the shared voice actor and similar grumpy demeanors.
