• Alternate Character Interpretation: Is Zerba really just a Lovable Rogue pickpocket and con man who happened to get his hands on an old lightsaber he uses as a cutting tool, or is he an actual Order 66 survivor hiding in plain sight?

• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: The Black Sun tie-in and death of a Vigo could have had a subplot setting up the ascension of one of the Rebellion era-Vigos from Shadows of the Empire (either as a loyal Dragon Their Feet subordinate or a treacherous underling who is delighted by or even helps set up the death of his boss), but only new characters represent the Black Sun in this story.
• Vanilla Protagonist: Many readers feel that Han gets a lot of focus for someone who has already been in a lot of material where he has more nuances than here. That focus also comes at the expense of his interesting heist teammates, such as goofy, lightsaber-owning pickpocket and distraction-maker Zerba, Lando (whose feelings about the Ylesian mess that recently soured his and Han's friendship isn't dwelled on much), the Classy Cat-Burglar Kitik Twins, Kell and Winter (Alderaanian rebels who are dealing with the recent loss of their homeworld and are established characters who are younger and in different mental places than in their previous appearances), local aristocrat turned Knowledge Broker Rachele, and occasionally introspective ship thief Dozer.
