  • Harsher in Hindsight: Tuvok is chosen to recite the annual Prixin salutation speech, which includes an extensive list of relatives. It's a long speech listing off how happy everyone is to be gathered in the presence of all their relatives: "Father, mother, sister, brother. Father's father, father's mother, father's brother, mother's brother..." - But in the scene immediately before that, Neelix brings up that his entire family died in the war (his parents, his sisters, and all his cousins). So Neelix is cheerfully sitting through a painful reminder of all he's lost, because he wants everyone else to have a good time.
  • Nightmare Fuel: When Neelix's sister Alixia starts mocking Naomi Wildman by repeating what she said to Neelix using Naomi's own voice, it's remarkably chilling. And then she rots away and turns to ash...
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • While Neelix angsts over his experience being "dead," not a word from Harry Kim about his own experience dying (twice!). Or Captain Janeway's near-death experience in "Coda."
    • Or, for that matter, from Samantha Wildman, regarding her "original" daughter. Given Naomi's role in the episode, this a big missed opportunity. (Though the writers may understandably have deemed the issue too dark and deliberately shied away from it.)
    • Yes, it's true that Neelix was hiding his conflict from everyone except Chakotay, but we're talking about the show's writers missing a great story opportunity.
