YMMV / Star Trek Voyager S 2 E 23 "The Thaw"

• Ass Pull: Janeway's deduction that the Clown secretly wants to be conquered comes out of nowhere and isn't supported by any of its behavior either before or after its defeat.
• Broken Base: While just about everyone agrees this episode perfectly captures the feel of The Original Series, that means it's either delightfully fun and weird while still being creepy and clever, or it's an over-the-top campfest impossible to take seriously.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: The Clown is not dissimilar to Pennywise. Michael McKean would later marry Annette O'Toole, who played the adult version of Beverly Marsh in the miniseries.
• Nightmare Fuel: The Clown is probably one of the scariest one-off characters on Voyager. Clowns by the 1990s were already in the process of undergoing their cultural shift from goofy, lovable figures to frightening images, so add to that a clown that can read your thoughts and use them to torture you for fun. Michael McKean's gleefully psychotic performance is the icing on the terrifying cake.
• The Woobie: Poor Harry. The Clown has a grand old time going out of his way to humiliate and terrorize him.
