Epileptic Trees: From the reality warping to the obsession with French, try to find a Trekkie who doesn't think Trelane is a Q. The novel Q-Squared runs with this and makes Trelane Q's protege. At least until he goes insane from omnipotence. To this day, whether or not Trelane is a member of the Q Continuum has yet to be confirmed or Jossed, with Roddenberry himself going back and forth on the matter in interviews.note The novel Q-Squared, like most Trek novels is not considered canon until a properly-canon episode or film establishes it as true or false. The usual exceptions are the novelizations of Trek films or episodes, though even expanded scenes in those can be Retconned away in later works. The closest we've gotten in universe is Beckett Mariner comparing the two in a throw away line in "Those Old Scientists" but not explicitly confirming it.
