• Author's Saving Throw: Forged in Fire features an explanation for why the Trill depicted in "The Host" differ from their later depiction in the series; the ridged Trill were originally standard Trill who were infected by a variation of the augment virus that reached a Trill colony, and they avoided using transports to conceal the existence of the symbiote rather than because the transporters would damage the symbiote.
