* IKnewIt: When the game was first announced at [[UsefulNotes/ElectronicEntertainmentExpo E3]] 2014, it became a popular request among fans for Creator/PlatinumGames to develop it as Creator/HidekiKamiya stated on multiple occasions he was interested in developing a ''Star Fox'' installment. The company was eventually brought in to co-develop it along with Nintendo EAD.

** A framerate analysis video by Digital Foundry found that occasionally the framerate can dip below 60 during really effects intensive battles. This only caused the debate regarding the game's use of the [=GamePad=] to intensify, as some claim that the framerate dips are "evidence" that the [=GamePad=] is holding the game back from higher visual fidelity, while others state that the [=GamePad=] most likely isn't to blame for the dips due to some other Wii U games displaying the game on both screens at the same time without any framerate troubles. Some have even pointed out that this isn't the first time a game developed by Platinum had some minor framerate issues, with games like ''VideoGame/MetalGearRising'' and ''VideoGame/TheWonderful101'' also having dips, yet said games were still widely praised in spite of this minor issue.

Flows better this way

* UncertainAudience: The game suffers from this due to the conflict between the game's presentation returning to the conflict against Andross and the heavily altered gameplay from the previous installments involving shooting with the right trigger, tilting and barrel-rolling the Arwing with the Right Stick, and aiming with motion controls. As a result, potential new players derided the presentation and story as pandering too much to fans of ''VideoGame/StarFox64'' while established ''Star Fox'' fans were turned off by the reworked gameplay. The fact the game had so little new to present in the story managed to alienate everyone, with how the lack of a new story made sure barely anyone would be willing to EnjoyTheStorySkipTheGame and admire it for its own identity, with how much it piggybacks off the more accesible 64.

** One of the reasons why Slippy received so much flak in ''Star Fox 64'' is because he costs you a chance to head to Macbeth and forcing you to get the ActuallyADoombot ending due to his recklessness, thus forcing you to head to Titania.[[note]]This happens during the boss fight in Sector X, though you can defeat the boss ''before'' he gets in the way and still go to Macbeth.[[/note]] Here, they swapped characters, and had Peppy crash onto Titania instead. And even ''then'', it's justified, as ''[[TheRival Star Wolf]]'' was the one to shoot him down, as opposed to it happening [[LeeroyJenkins because one of your teammates was being careless]].
** After it became clear that Krystal would not be part of the game, Yusuke Hashimoto of Creator/PlatinumGames responded to fandom concerns [[https://twitter.com/PG_y_hashimoto/status/634182551439933440?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw in a Twitter post]] that he was actually fond of the character, and would love to include her in a sequel to ''Zero'' if one was made.

And that's not even getting into [[WebVideo/{{Jimquisition}} Jim Sterling]]'s 2 out of 10 score for the game, in a review where they mercilessly beat the game down to a pulp by showcasing how Nintendo can't get Star Fox out of ''64's'' shadow, and is trying to reinvent the wheel with a ContinuityReboot aping many aspects of that game.

Slippy's not stupid; he was just reckless at that moment. There's a distinction to be made.

** "En-Route Anomaly" is a rather frustrating level--both for being an EscortMission, and also because it's identical to the Asteroid Field level, except there are more enemies, which ramps up the difficulty. ** Sector Gamma. There is a lot going on here. You have to take down the missiles in time, much like Sector Z from ''Star Fox 64''. However, some drones will sometimes appear and either attack the Great Fox or your companions, meaning that you have to destroy all the missiles, protect everyone, mothership included, and deal with those obnoxious drones. Also, the missiles have to be broken into parts to be destroyed and will explode after you deal enough damage, meaning that you have to get out of here quickly or you will lose '''half''' of Fox's entire shield gauge, with his death scream in the meantime. It's pretty easy to fail the mission or cause Fox to die if you're not careful.

* VindicatedByHistory: While the game itself has been mostly forgotten, gyroscope aiming has been incredibly well-received in years after the game was released, despite being the feature that attracted the most vitriol when it was released. It's even now considered a ''negative'' if it isn't an option, as many consider it to be a more natural and accurate way of using controllers to aim than with a stick. It's to the point where if a game with no traditional aiming like this were released, the aiming system would be a complaint, but likely not a damning feature that would cause it to flop like this.
