YMMV / Splicers

Go To

  • Paranoia Fuel: Nanobots are everywhere. Not just in the metal and technology but in the plants, water, air... they might even be inside most human beings! It's a good thing that they merely prevent people from using mechanical gadgets and tools rather than killing them outright, otherwise the war would probably be over in a single day...
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: While not quite as bad as a few other Tabletop Game settings Splicers is definitely one of Palladium's darker series and it shows in both the story and gameplay. Humanity has been devastated by a nanobot plague that prevents them from using any metallic technology and has forced them into a deadly and almost completely hopeless Robot War against a rouge A.I. that could wipe them out at almost any moment if it wasn't already busy with it's many conflicting personalities. People have only survived by undergoing grisly and often disfiguring biological mutations and finding a way to use organic technology against their overwhelming mechanical opponents. While a good G.M. can preserve morale among the players while also maintaining the drama Splicers is definitely not a game for the faint of heart or people that have grown accustomed to Palladium's more lighthearted and campy works (like Rifts or Heroes Unlimited) with its gritty sci-fi realism and grim situation.
