  • Adaptation Displacement: While the book by the Strugatsky Brothers still enjoys huge popularity, the movie is known and loved by a much larger audience, being a New Year special practically at the same level as The Irony of Fate.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Some fans think Kovrov is also in love with Alyona, just has a different attitude to it from Sataneev.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The very first scene. Actors playing Father Frost pair off with with actresses playing the Snow Maiden, until several Fathers Frost are left alone and begin arguing. It has nothing to do with the plot and is never referenced again.
  • Fanon Welding: Some fans have speculated that the film takes place in a Shared Universe with Monday Begins on Saturday, and, in particular, film!Kivrin is a nephew, grandson, or some other kind of younger relation of book!Kivrin.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The band that got invited to the New Year celebration quickly agrees to help the heroes, despite initially viewing them as just a bunch of suspicious weirdos and the fact that the conflict of the story has nothing whatsoever to do with them. Nevertheless, after what is implied to be a very hasty explanation of what’s going on, they are just fine with passing Ivan off as their composer and having nine-year-old Nina on lead vocals. And it’s not magical hypnosis: Kovrov explicitly states that he doesn’t use any magic in dealing with them this time.
