YMMV / Sonic and the Fallen Star

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: The Metal Sonic fight in Gusty Greenhouse Zone (the sixth Zone out of nine) is deceptively easy, as you only have to skip his energy balls, wait for him to get on the ground and skip his dashes.
  • Awesome Art: The game has colorful graphics which give a dream-like impression, and Sonic has many animations giving him more personality.
  • Awesome Music: Alongside the art style, both soundtracks, made by Hollie Taylor and Hi. :\, contribute to give the game a unique atmosphere.
  • Funny Moments:
    • When the heroes arrive in Discount Districts, Tails notices an advertising and tells Sonic to look at it: it's a "Mystic Star" panel with Amy on it, followed by her hug sound effect. Tails then taunts Sonic about how she's obsessed with him and laughs while the blue hedgehog gives him a sarcastic glare.
    • After you defeat the True Final Boss, Thunder Turbine will collapse. Next to Nova Sonic, you can see Eggman falling in a parachute with a depressed look due to another failure, and Tails panics as he's falling before remembering he could fly.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The island where the events of the game take place is named Starfall Island, four months before a canon game makes it an archipel.
  • Spiritual Successor:
    • This fangame can be considered the modern equivalent to Sonic 2, as its level design focuses on horizontality to encourage players to always go fast and by using speed as a reward not only to find faster paths, but special stages as well.
    • Due to the similar presentation and level design, many have considered this game to be one to two previous Sonic fan titles, Sonic: Before the Sequel and Sonic: After the Sequel. The game's developer, StarDrop, has even admitted to being inspired by the games in one interview.
  • That One Boss: The True Final Boss in Stardom Sanctuary is a massive difficulty spike from the rest of the bosses and is brutal by the standards of a Super Sonic fight, as Eggman's attacks are hard to avoid, with one attack having him covering an entire portion of the screen with a giant laser cannon and another having him summoning spikes that quickly home in on you. There's also the fact that all of Eggman's attacks can actually hurt Nova Sonic and make him lose rings, which, combined with the quickly depleting ring counter, Eggman's large Life Meter, Nova Sonic's unwieldy flight controls, the lack of Mercy Invincibility, and the arena not giving you a ton of rings to collect, means you will likely lose to him quite a few times before beating him.
  • That One Level: The last two special stages are especially tricky, as they introduce a special spring that requires a combination after you jump on it to go further, making you fall to the ground or a bottomless pit if you fail.
