YMMV / Song vs. Song

  • Growing the Beard:
    • Episode 10, Space Oddity vs. Rocket Man, ends with the hosts announcing their intention to take the show more seriously, with two main improvements:
      • Previous episodes had averaged 30 minutes in length, and while topics such as where the songs fit in their respective artists' careers had been discussed before, for this one they went deep into the Space Race context for both songs, and in general went into a deeper discussion about the two songs. This pushed the episode length to around 50-60 minutes, where it remains to this day.
      • The first four episodes were recorded for Digital Music News over the course of the latter half of 2018, with the five following their departure coming out sporadically over the first four months of 2019. With this episode, coming nearly a full month after the last, they committed to a schedule of coming out the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month; with one exception, this has remained the case ever since.
    • Despite this, that episode and the one following were the last two where Todd didn't read out the vote totals, only the percentages; given this, episode 12 (Since U Been Gone vs. Get the Party Started) can be said to be where the beard is truly set in place.
    • The three questionsnote  evolved over time, eventually incorporating a fourthnote
      • The "fly on the wall" question first appeared in episode 22, Superstition vs. Shining Star, due to conflicting accounts as to how much of Superstition was written by Jeff Beck.
