- Adaptation Displacement: The first game was originally produced for the Commodore 64, Apple IIGS, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, and MS-DOS PCs, but all of those versions, at least in North America, were overshadowed by Konami's NES port.
- Designated Villain: The Mayor's wife in the second game is portrayed as overreacting in her quest to ban skateboarding even though you ran over and killed her poodle with your board. (Icepick was involved, but still.) Worse, to change her mind you attack her with a paintball gun.
- Newer Than They Think: The "skate or die!" expression as we know it began with this franchise.
- Suspiciously Similar Song:
- The Freestyle theme in the first game sounds like "Digital World" by Trans-X.
- The Downhill Race theme is similar to The Bangles' "Walk Like An Egyptian".
- The Streets theme in the second game is similar to Pete Shelley's "Homosapien".
- Also from the second game, the Sewers theme is copied verbatim from the intro of Black Sabbath's "Under The Sun".
