YMMV / Sixteen (Korean Reality)

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: The four youngest girls – Eunsuh, Somi, Chaeryeong, and Natty – especially the latter three who made it to the final episode. Even if any of them had made the final cut, they could not have debuted alongside the older girls anyway because the minimum legal age of employment in Korea is 15. They were all 14 when Twice debuted in October 2015, except Natty who was 13.
    • This of course has led to speculation that SIXTEEN was just as "rigged" as most other MNet-produced elimination shows are, and the post-99's were only there to fill spaces and never had a chance from the start, while the success of the oldest competitors – particularly Nayeon and Jihyo – was never in doubt.
    • Minyoung was the only competitor associated with 6Mix, and one of only two in the older group, to fail. Even though she was considered a better vocalist than Jihyo and Nayeon at the time (and, unlike them, could and can speak English), she had a bad habit of choking during her performances. The experience left her so broken that she gave up and left entertainment. It would be six years until the public heard from her again.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Even though they didn't win, the show was still valuable experience for the girls who lost. JYP mentioned several times during the elimination "debriefs" to various members that being eliminated may be the end of their time in Sixteen, but that he hopes they can use what they have learned to grow as artists and performers. Sure enough…
    • Jiwon debuted as part of fromis_9 in 2017
    • Chaeyeon debuted as part of IZ*ONE in 2018 (but it disbanded in 2021), then became a soloist.
    • Chaeryeong (Chaeyeon's younger sister) remains with JYPE as a member of Itzy.
    • Somi debuted as a solo artist under YG Entertainment affiliate The Black Label in 2019, three years after debuting in the unfortunately short-lived IOI.
    • Natty made her solo debut in 2020. She would eventually make her group debut with Kiss of Life three years later.
