The movie

  • Harsher in Hindsight: In the movie, the character Luther is shot in the back and killed by Tisean. On October 3, 2020, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, the actor who played Luther, was shot in the back and killed.
  • Tear Jerker: The movie is one of the most emotionally charged crime films of the 1990s, so there are moments that will leave the audience weeping but the most devastating scenes:
    • Stevie mistakenly killed by police and the subsequent heart-wrenching scene of Stony sobbing and cradling her little brother's dead body.
    • In the climax, when the final robbery goes awry, Tisean, Cleo and Frankie are all killed by the police.
    • Stony crying thinking about the memories with her friends and brother with her cut of the money on the bed in Mexico.
  • The Woobie:
    • Stony. Poor Stony. She lost her parents prior to events of the film, she loses her little brother who was killed by the police in a case of mistaken identity and then loses her three best friends by the end of the film.
    • Frankie counts as well, as she was unfairly fired from her job at the bank in the film's opening just for knowing one of the robbers Darnell despite not being involved with the robbery.
    • T.T. too, her son is taken from her by child services after an accident at work because she was unable to find a babysitter and will likely spend the rest of his childhood in the foster system.

The band

  • Signature Song: "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" is recognized as the most popular song by the band, due to its angry tone resonating with fans and its frequent use in AMVs and other fan projects.
