|These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.|
YMMV: Serge Gainsbourg
- Magnificent Bastard: Fooled the innocent young chanteuse France Gall into singing songs filled with innuendos to troll the airwaves, most memorably Le Sucettes.
- Sampled Up: For example, a few songs from Histoire de Melody Nelson were sampled by people as distinct as De La Soul, David Holmes or Pop Will Eat Itself. Outside of that, "Bonnie and Clyde" was sampled by MC Solaar (check "Nouveau Western") and "Initials B.B." was sampled by Black Grape.
- The Woobie: He grew up under the Nazi Occupation and wore the yellow star. His family later had to flee Paris and he was sent to hide in a Jesuite school under a false identity; he nearly escaped death one night during a Gestapo control.
