  • Broken Base: Despite being one of Death Metal's most well-regarded bands, there are quite a few mixed opinions in their fanbase:
    • Whether their pre-reunion or post-reunion material is better. Many older fans believe that they hit their peak with Sumerian Daemons and regard their later material as subpar in comparison, with some even going as far as saying the band should have stayed dead, citing the material as needlessly loud, overly polished, and more generic in comparison. However, many younger fans, many of whom got into them through their later material, often find it hard to go back and listen to their pre-Communion albums due to how drastically different they sound. There are a portion of fans who openly enjoy all the band's music, however.
    • Out of all of their albums, Titan is easily the most divisive. It's either a natural evolution of their prior two reunion albums, or their weakest album due to being less memorable and not living up to the standards of their previous two albums.
    • Being their discography's Oddball in the Series, Revolution DNA is either an interesting experiment or an overly ambitious mess depending on who you ask.
    • For something so minor, their name change has quite a few debates surrounding it, mostly over whether it actually matters. Some felt it was necessary to signify their second phase, while others believe it was such a small change (all they did was fuse the two words into one) that there was no reason they should have even announced it, or whether anyone would even notice it in the first place if the band themselves didn't point it out.
  • Older Than They Think: There are quite a few newer fans who are unaware that the band has been around since the early 90s, as their 2008 comeback album Communion was their first release to gain attention outside of the death metal scene, to the point that a handful of people think that it is their first album. Case in point: Fleshgod Apocalypse, the other big death metal band to utilize Symphonic Metal elements, is the most suggested similar artist to them on Metal Archives by a long shot, despite the fact that Septicflesh existed almost 20 years before Fleshgod Apocalypse even released anything.
    • Possibly downplayed, since the band themselves label Communion as the start of their "second phase", even altering the spelling of their name, which was spelled as two separate words (as in "Septic Flesh") beforehand. They also seem to be aware of this trope; as of 2016, they re-released literally all of their previous albums with their new logo and with new artwork, seemingly aware that they gained legions of new fans, almost saying "Yo, we've been around longer than you think, check this shit out."
  • Signature Song: "Anubis".
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus regarding Modern Primitive. Much like Titan two albums prior, it's seen by many as well-made but extremely formulaic, arguably even more so due to it following a 5-year wait, with even its most glowing reviews citing it as more of the same and many fans expressing a desire for a little something different next time.
